What's Your Secret Sauce?

Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique. What is it about you, exactly, that makes you different? Write this up in a detailed list.
1. I am both lazy and productive at the same time. In other words, I procrastinate on things I do not want to really do, but once I start to do it, I will make sure that I do my best on it.
2. I am very empathetic. Regardless of whether or not I have experienced exactly what the other person is experiencing, I am able to empathize with them and sort of put myself in their position to understand what they are going through. There have been many times where I had felt more emotional towards someone else's problems whereas I do not usually feel emotional towards my own problems.
3. I like to be alone. Many people like to be surrounded by other people because they do not like the feeling of being lonely. I like to be alone because I have no problem entertaining myself with a good book or movie. Don't get me wrong, I love hanging out in large groups and having fun, but I am also very content in being by myself.
4. I am very adaptable. Growing up, I have always been active and playing some type of sport. I would go through many different environments and coaching styles, which forced me to learn to adapt fast. This has helped me tremendously in school as well. With new teachers every year, it would be hard to keep up with some teaching styles, but I learned to find my way through each style quickly.
5. I am safe. I tend to be on the less adventurous side and I tend to think about the consequences of certain actions. This also reflects on any food or drink choices I make. Instead of trying something new, I would stick with what I like best because it is safe. I wouldn't want to have tried something new and then not like it, ultimately losing money.
Interview the five people who know you the best.
Bryce Chan:
"You’re basically the embodiment of friendly competitions in that you can push people to do better collectively while keeping it constructive and fun. Great to have on any team as a voice of reason. Has a way of motivating others without sparking animosity."

Meghan Ta:
“I think what makes you different are your social abilities and your wit. You’re very good at listening to others and empathizing with their situation, making the other person feel important and heard. I also think you’re very good at making others feel calm and at ease due to your nature as a person and how relaxed you always seem most of the time. You also fit into a lot of different social situations because of how flexible you are and comfortable you seem around different people.”

Sabrina Chen:
"What makes Mia different is that she has the ability to not care what others think. No matter what situation she is put into she stays the genuine person that she is and she stays grounded. She is super chill and very smart, which goes into her self confidence."

Pristina Kuo:
"Mia is seen as a very chill person on the outside, but to me, her greatest trait is her listening skills. She listens intently, making sure to understand what you are saying and she makes you feel very appreciated. In regards to skill she is also really knowledgeable in everything that she is passionate about. She is also really relatable and down-to-earth, making it really easy for me to talk to her about anything."

Izin Ton:
"Mia is a very unique individual, she is really good at making those around her feel comfortable physically and mentally. She is also a fast-learner when it comes to learning new things and even if she comes off as a pretty serious person, she is a very kind and emotional person who is super easy to get along with."
Reflect on the differences.
I definitely see myself with more flaws compared to how others see me. I actually do not think there are any differences in how I assess myself compared to others because I agree with what they all have said about me. In a way, this is how I am and how I wanted others to view me so, it just shows that I am successfully being the best person that I can be towards others through my actions. Going back to my list, I would make one correction on the list. I would probably list that I am a very good listener rather than I am very empathetic. Being empathetic actually goes into listening since you would have to be a good listener to understand what the other person is saying and then be able to put yourself in their shoes.

  1. Hi Mia,
I would first like to say that we are very similar! I myself also enjoy being by myself as well. With that being said, I also see myself with more flaws than the amount other people see. I feel like that is just innate. In addition, I thought you conducted your interviews very well. Overall, Great post Mia!

  2. Hi Mia,
I can definitely respect how introspective you are, I think the ability to recognize one's own faults makes for deeper reflection after a course of action, which will greatly benefit you as an entrepreneur. Your empathy and good listening skills make you a good and quick learner probably, which makes you a good person to be around and work with. It was very interesting hearing what others had to say!
