Growing Your Social Capital

1) One person must be a domain expert in your industry. Brian Magida is the Senior Director, Performance Marketing at Warby Parker. Warby Parker is an eyewear company that sells eyewear at a reasonable price but still provides great quality products. They are able to sell glasses wholesale so that they are not tagging on extra fees for their customers. He is the domain expert in the eyewear industry because he knows best the type of customers that we are trying to target. He is not one of the founders of Warby Parker but he does an important job when it comes to customer research and knowing what the customer needs and wants in their product most. I found Brian and contacted him through LinkedIn and having him in my network will be very helpful because he would be able to connect me with so many different people within the eyewear industry. He would also help me learn the ins and outs of the business, showing me what service customers expect the most.  2) One person must...

Idea Napkin No. 2

1.)  You . I am an Asian American and this is important because low nose bridges are most prominent in the Asian community. Of course this feature is not only exclusive to the Asian community, so through my business idea, I will be representing those who also relate to having a low nose bridge. I understand this need greatly and so I want to create a change that will help others with this need as well. Since I will be able to relate to my customers on this need, I will use my communication skills to be able to build a relationship with my customers so that they will buy my product. In return, I will make sure to build their trust and provide them with the best service and products. 2.)  What are you offering to customers? I am offering eyewear that will fit on those who have lower nose bridges. There is always an issue with how eyewear fits on lower nose bridges, such as the glasses frame sitting on our cheeks or the part on the eyewear where it is supposed to sit on...

My prototypical customer is literally anyone who would have a low nose bridge and have trouble finding eye wear that fits them right. This could be a young child who had just discovered that they need to wear glasses because they have bad eyesight; or this could be an older person who always had trouble finding the right fit for their sunglasses that they need to wear everyday. I would have such a wide range of customers and I want to make sure that I try my best to accommodate most of them. I do imagine that a lot of my customers will be of the asian race because this low nose bridge feature is quite prominent with them. You will see that some eyewear brands will have an "Asian Fit" for those who have lower nose bridges, but they cost a lot more than the market price of the normal fitted eyewear. What I have in common with my customers would be that I, myself have a low nose bridge. I find that many people around me also have this problem in having to find right fitting e...

What's Your Secret Sauce?

Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique.  What is it about you, exactly, that makes you different? Write this up in a detailed list.  1. I am both lazy and productive at the same time. In other words, I procrastinate on things I do not want to really do, but once I start to do it, I will make sure that I do my best on it.  2. I am very empathetic. Regardless of whether or not I have experienced exactly what the other person is experiencing, I am able to empathize with them and sort of put myself in their position to understand what they are going through. There have been many times where I had felt more emotional towards someone else's problems whereas I do not usually feel emotional towards my own problems.  3. I like to be alone. Many people like to be surrounded by other people because they do not like the feeling of being lonely. I like to be alone because I have no problem entertaining myself with a good book or movi...

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No.2

Begin with alternative evaluation.  My business idea is to start a company that provides eye wear for those who have lower nose bridges and have a hard time finding good fitting eye wear in the market right now. For my customers, I believe that when they are looking for the perfect eye wear for them, they consider the style of the eye wear as important. I believe so because even if the eye wear is reasonably priced, but they do not like how it looks on them, they will not buy the product. Since this will be something that will be worn out where others can see, the style will have to be perfect for the customer to be confident in what they are wearing. In addition to the style, the fit would be the most important aspect to my customers. Considering my whole business is based off how eye wear will fit those who have a lower nose bridge, I hope that my customers will take advantage of this and find eye wear that fits them best.  How/where do they buy?  For my business, ...
