Reading Reflection No. 1

1) You read about an entrepreneur: I read Shoe Dog  by Phil Knight and the thing that surprised me the most about Knight was the adventure he went on before establishing his business. He had travelled to so many different places by himself and he made sure to make the most of each destination that he visited. He did things that most tourists wouldn't even think about doing, such as climbing a mountain or going to a coal mine. It really surprised me how spontaneous he was and he went through with everything that he said he wanted to do. This also contributes to what I admire most about Knight. I really admire how he had something that he was passionate about and no matter what anyone said to him about it, he pursued his dream, investing everything he has. He did what a lot of people are scared to do, and the extend to which he did it was also very risky. The fact that he went to Japan with no set plans and ended up signing a contract to distribute shoes for a Japanese company, wh...

Halfway Reflection

1)  Tenaciousness is a competency.  As a student, I always make sure to do my work by the deadline but, this didn't always mean that I would do work ahead of time. I procrastinate work until the last minute and so there were some times where I had piled on multiple assignments to do that were all due on the same day. I know that as a student, that is not the ideal way to handle your workload and I know for sure that that would especially not work in this class. Since I was aware of this, I made sure to be productive and try to work ahead. Of course, I was not good with my time management in the beginning, but as soon as I got into the groove of things with my schedule, I would say that I had gotten a lot better and started working ahead instead of procrastinating all my work. This class requires you to be strict with yourself and although the work can be a little tedious, I do say that it has helped me to be a better student.   2)  Tenaciousness is also abo...

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

Segment : The segment for my business is anyone who have low nose bridges and have trouble finding eyewear that fit on their face correctly. Need Awareness:  All interviewees had the need of finding eyewear that will fit on their face properly because they all had low nose bridges. Two out of three of the interviewees wore glasses everyday and the third interviewee only wore glasses at home after taking off her contacts or when she is driving. Even though one of the interviewees did not always wear glasses, when she does wear them she said she always has to push up her glasses, just as the other interviewees, because they slide down her nose every time she moves. All of the interviewees said that this need is most salient when they go eyewear shopping. Each of them struggle to find eyewear that fit on their nose bridge and look good at the same time, and they said that they all had to settle to a mediocre pair of glasses because they gave up trying to find something that would fi...

Idea Napkin No. 1

1.) You . I am an Asian American and this is important because low nose bridges are most prominent in the Asian community. Of course this feature is not only exclusive to the Asian community, so through my business idea, I will be representing those who also relate to having a low nose bridge. I understand this need greatly and so I want to create a change that will help others with this need as well. Since I will be able to relate to my customers on this need, I will use my communication skills to be able to build a relationship with my customers so that they will buy my product. In return, I will make sure to build their trust and provide them with the best service and products. 2.) What are you offering to customers? I am offering eyewear that will fit on those who have lower nose bridges. There is always an issue with how eyewear fits on lower nose bridges, such as the glasses frame sitting on our cheeks or the part on the eyewear where it is supposed to sit on our nose bridge ...

Elevator Pitch

My elevator pitch is on starting an eyewear company that more accommodates those who have lower nose bridges given that eyewear has been designed to accommodate more towards those who have taller nose bridges. https://youtu.be/R8EW5uYBEKs

Testing the Hypothesis Part 2

Who: The certain people that fall out of the boundary are those who have taller nose bridges, thus they do not really understand the problem of finding eyewear that doesn't fit right on the face. Those who fit the standard do fall out of the boundary, but again, every face is different, so some eyewear might not fit right even on someone who has a taller nose bridge. Those who also do not regularly wear eyewear fall out of the boundary. Since they do not have to worry about having to find good fitting eyewear, they do not have have this need. What:  This need to have eyewear that can fit can be identified as a different need when there is only a need for eyewear to look fashionable, rather than for just practical use. Of course, those who need the eyewear would get a style that most frames their face, but when those who do not need prescription glasses but buys them to look fashionable, then it doesn't become a need, but rather a want. Why:  The underlying cause of an outs...

Testing the Hypothesis Part 1

Opportunity I wish to pursue: Eyewear brands in the U.S. have yet to recognize the need of eyewear that can perfectly fit those who have low nose bridges because many of the brands still recognize high nose bridges as the standard for everybody. The who: People with low nose bridges The what: Eyewear brands do not make available eyewear that flatter those who have low nose bridges The why: high nose bridges are still recognized as the standard for everybody Testing the who: There are definitely others with this need, for example, the Asian community. Testing the what: Some brands actually do recognize this need but they will make this option more expensive or only available in Asian countries. Testing the why: Eyewear brands do not recognize this need because they believe that those with higher nose bridges are the most populous in the U.S. But the Asian community is increasing in the U.S., causing there to be more of a need. Interview 1: My first glasses were just basic pl...

Solving the Problem

Problem: Not enough eyewear brands are providing their consumers eyewear that compliment lower nose bridges. Solution: Everybody has different face shapes and different nose bridges, making it difficult to accommodate everyone. But the biggest inconvenience I have felt is when I am trying to pick out new eyewear, whether it be sunglasses or prescription glasses. There are already products that you can add to your eyewear but it doesn't look flattering so I wanted to get eyewear brands to create the same type of glasses that can fit those who have lower nose bridges. I know that a large number of us in the Asian community have this problem, so creating these new glasses will probably increase the brands' revenue.

Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Economic Trends Opportunity 1: The U.S. dollar is getting stronger a.)  https://ihsmarkit.com/research-analysis/top-10-economic-predictions-for-2020.html b.) As the U.S. dollar gets stronger, the more people would want to travel to other countries, creating an opportunity to better our airline and airport service. c.) I think the prototypical customer will be those who travel a lot whether it be for work or leisure. d.) I think the opportunity is relatively easy to exploit because as a consumer you want to see fresh new ideas put into place for your convenience, and if the airline and airport industry acts upon this opportunity I believe that they will be very successful. I was able to find this opportunity because I am currently taking a Travel and Tourism course. The course helped me realize that as long as the U.S. dollar is strong, more people would want to take this opportunity to travel because it would be cheaper after conversion rates. Opportunity 2: Oil and gas pri...
