Final Reflection

Image
1) Read through your posts from this semester. Recall all of the experiences you've had a long the way -- the highs, the lows -- the fun moments, and the moments of drudgery, and even the moments of dread. 2) What sticks out to you as the most formative experience? The experience that you'll remember years later? What was your most joyous experience? What experience are you most proud of yourself for accomplishing? The experience that sticks out to me the most is the dread that I experienced of having to do multiple assignments due every Friday afternoon and the cupcake that was due every Monday afternoon. A lot of the assignments included having to interview a lot of people, forcing me to formulate a business of my own and doing consumer research. Although, I did feel a lot of dread towards this class, I also felt that I learned a lot of valuable skills. I learned to become more productive and manage my time better. Since I didn't want to slack, I had to work ahead...

Venture Concept No. 2

1) Provide, again, your venture concept description,  using this form   Opportunity There are many people who have this unmet, including myself, which is how I came about this opportunity. I found that I, and quite a few people around me, have lower nose bridges, making it hard for regular eyewear to sit well on our faces. Eyewear will constantly slip down our noses, due to the glasses not fitting well, the types of styles that will fit are limited and might not even suit our faces. This causes customers with low nose bridges to have to settle on eyewear that is an only "okay" fit. Thus, I wanted to create a business where I will be selling eyewear that is geared towards those who have lower nose bridges and provide them with all types of styles and great quality eyewear. The "window of opportunity" will always be open I believe because there won't be a shortage of people who wear prescription glasses or sunglasses anytime soon because for some it is a ne...

Reading Reflection No. 3

Inbound Marketing: Attract, Engage, and Delight Customers Online  by Brian Halligan 1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? The general theme of the book was how to market specifically to your market so that you can gain more traffic onto your website, ads, etc. Marketing is an important aspect to any business because that is how you get your brand out there to prospective customers. This book highlighted the importance of making the right marketing decisions and of creating content on our website where customers will come back to.  2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? In my opinion, I feel that this book connected with building a business and how to gain consumers. A business would not be a business without those who will buy our products or services and one way to get more customer is through marketing. Thus, if we want our new business to gain more publicity, it is important to make good mark...

Your Exit Strategy

1) Identify the exit strategy you plan to make. Do you intend to sell your business in the next 5 years for a large return? Do you intend to stay with the business for several decades and retire? Do you intend to protect the venture as a family business, and pass it down to your children? My exit strategy for right now would be to eventually sell my business between 5-10 years.  2) Why have you selected this particular exit strategy? I decided to select this exit strategy because I want to try new things as an entrepreneur. Once I am in the business long enough, I feel as though I could use that experience to create a more niche and unique business. I want to keep bettering myself with each new experience and I feel like I wouldn't be able to do that if I were to stay in one business for a long period of time. 3) How do you think your exit strategy has influenced the other decisions you've made in your concept? For instance, has it influenced how you have identified an o...

Celebrating Failure

1) Tell us about a time this past semester that you failed -- whether in this class, or outside of this class. Don't spare any details! It'd be even better if there was something you tried several times this semester, and failed each time.  This past semester I have applied to many summer internships online and I attended the internship fair for my college. Since this is my Junior year, I was hoping to get an internship to gain more experience in the field that I wish to pursue. However, many of the internships that I applied to never contacted me back or I was denied an interview. For the few that I did interview for ended up getting canceled due to the corona virus. Although the cancellations were unavoidable, I will still consider it a failure because I ultimately wasn't able to get the internship. 2) Tell us what you learned from it.   I learned that I shouldn't get discouraged every time I fail. Failing is all a part of learning and I know that I should embrac...

What's Next?

Existing Market Step 1: Talk about what you think is what's next in terms of products and services for your venture. If my venture were to succeed in great numbers, I believe that the next step would be to open multiple stores across, expanding the business statewide, or even nation wide. I would want my brand to be well-known to help those who struggle with low nose bridges and represent them in the industry.  Step 3: Based on your own expectations and the feedback you received from customers, set a path for the future. In two to three paragraphs, describe what makes the most sense for your venture in terms of growing in your existing market. I think what makes the most sense for my venture is opening more stores in different areas so that my product can reach the most amount of customers. Unlike a restaurant, having just one store in one specific location will limit how marketable my product can be. I would be selling online as well but since this is eyewear we are talking...

Your Venture's Unfair Advantage

Generate a list of all of the resources in your venture (produce a list of at least 10 resources that you already possess). This can include your human capital, social capital, financial capital, and capabilities. You may also discuss the organizational culture you intend to create (but, obviously, it's not a resource that you have, now.) I have the need for eyewear the fits well on lower nose bridges I can connect well with my customers with my communication skills With the last assignment, I was able to grow my network within my market I like to be realistic about my goals, especially my career goals, so I won't set goals for my business that seem unreachable I would put my all into something that I am passionate about I am detail-oriented I am conversational in Japanese and Mandarin, giving me an opportunity to open my business overseas I have great customer service skills that I learned through my work experience I know many people who have low nose bridges and ha...

Elevator Pitch No. 3

1)  The pitch.  https://youtu.be/R8EW5uYBEKs 2)  A reflection on the feedback you received from your last pitch.  I was glad to hear mostly positive feedback because I find it hard to present something in front of a crowd, even if it was a recording. The feedback that stood out to me as important was based on my delivery, I was told that I could be a little more confident in my delivery because it seem as though I was stuttering and stumbling on my words. I do agree with that feedback because when I get nervous I do tend to stutter, making it hard to express what I really want to say.  3)  What did you change, based on the feedback? I made sure to almost memorize my pitch but also make it more personal because I do not want to seem like a robot. I wanted to sound natural and enthusiastic about my idea so that my listeners would be as engaged as I am on the topic.  I was probably a little shaky and seem unprepared in my last pitch so I wanted...

Reading Reflection No. 2

I read How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big  by Scott Adams . 1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? The general theme of the book is that one cannot be discouraged after failing. Scott Adams had failed in so much in his life that he wrote a book all about it, yet he was still able to succeed in something that he grew a lot of passion for and he probably doesn't regret the route that he took to get there. He learned from his past experiences, took them and applied it to his next new adventure, whether it be a new business or a new job. He wanted us to learn from his book that our failures are what puts us on that path of success that we desire, and that if we work smarter, then we can all get there eventually.  2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? In my opinion, I think the book connected with and enhanced what I was learning in ENT 3003 when it came to starting a business, but no...
