Halfway Reflection

1) Tenaciousness is a competency.
As a student, I always make sure to do my work by the deadline but, this didn't always mean that I would do work ahead of time. I procrastinate work until the last minute and so there were some times where I had piled on multiple assignments to do that were all due on the same day. I know that as a student, that is not the ideal way to handle your workload and I know for sure that that would especially not work in this class. Since I was aware of this, I made sure to be productive and try to work ahead. Of course, I was not good with my time management in the beginning, but as soon as I got into the groove of things with my schedule, I would say that I had gotten a lot better and started working ahead instead of procrastinating all my work. This class requires you to be strict with yourself and although the work can be a little tedious, I do say that it has helped me to be a better student.
2) Tenaciousness is also about attitude.
One moment when I really felt like giving up was when I was in my sophomore year.  I just started officership in an organization, so in the beginning of fall semester, I was already super busy with a lot. I was taking a hard class at the time and although I understood how difficult the class was going to be, in a way, I had prioritized the organization over my classes. My grade slipped in that class and it forced me to reevaluate how I should be prioritizing my time. I had also ended up questioning my major as well. What pulled me through this moment was really giving myself time to think about what exactly what I want to do in regards to my career path and that I need to prioritize school before extra curriculars. After that semester, I ended up changing my major and I now thoroughly enjoy what I am learning in class. I am more engaged and I can see my future a little more clearly now. Now that I am in my junior year, I do believe that I have developed a tenacious attitude and I have grown to become more and more determined. I would say that the experience that I had in sophomore year and my involvement with my major has contributed to this attitude.
3) Three tips.
My first tip would be to not procrastinate the work in this class. Mr. Pryor had said multiple times that working ahead is recommended because that is how you can best succeed in this class. Working ahead will foster good habits for you as a student and even for you in the workplace. As you plan to get ahead in your work it should get you more determined to work better and more efficiently. My second tip is to set small goals for yourself. If you set realistic, smaller goals for yourself throughout your time as a student, then achieving those goals will not only make you feel more accomplished and productive, it can also help you start achieving your bigger goals. My third tip is to never underestimate yourself. There are somethings that might seem too out-of-reach right now, but nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it. If there is something that you want, you can improve upon your skills and knowledge to acquire whatever it is. If you doubt yourself, the negativity will obstruct your way in getting what you want so you must always believe in yourself because only you know whats best for you.

  1. Hi Mia. I have faced similar situations as well where I have procrastinated my work till the last day but I am constantly trying to improve upon that. I completely agree with each of the tips that you mentioned in the post. I think that the third tip would especially be helpful because it can not only be applied for the class but also will be very helpful outside the class at any time in life as well.
