My Entrepreneurship Story
During my Sophomore year of high school, a group of my friends from my elementary school and I had decided to start a service project. In this service project we would build a haunted house and scare people on Halloween to raise money for cancer research. We would start planning over the summer and since we had a very small budget, we had to also find ways to raise money to buy supplies. The hardest part about this was to build the haunted house. With the permission of her parents, we used one of my friends' backyard to build the haunted house. Depending on the theme, we would have to decorate the walls and on the day of Halloween, we would all dress up and be scarers in the haunted house. I remember thinking that we spent a lot of time to plan and organize for this event that only lasts one night. It was tedious and a lot of work, but it was very much worth it. It gained attention over the years and even when my friends and I had moved away for college, my friend's sister had kept the service project going. With the help of large donations, ever since we had started the project in 2014, this project was able to raise over $1 million dollars. Although a fairly small project, we were able to make a small difference in being able to donate money to organizations and research that need it.
I enrolled in ENT3003 because I was alway fascinated by the idea of starting a business by trying to fulfill a need. I remember when I was younger, I would try to think of innovative ideas that would be able to fix the problems that people might be facing in their daily lives. And then I was pretty discouraged when I found out that basically anything that I thought of was already invented. So, I decided to enroll wanting to revisit that feeling of trying to think outside of the box to make people's lives more easier.

Hi Mia,
ReplyDeleteIt’s impressive how you started a service project while in high school- it shows that you have been thinking of entrepreneurship and its details for a long time. It also seems as if your experience with planning, budget, and supplies provided insight as to how larger corporations or projects are run. This can be applied to other projects that may not be haunted houses, but still require planning and detail oriented analysis.
