Bug List

20 things that “bug” me:
  1. Some buses have more handlebars on one side than the other, causing all the people standing to crowd towards that one side.
    1. The other side with the less handlebars is to create an open space for those in wheelchairs.
  2. I don’t like the chairs that have the desks attached because of how small the desks are.
    1. Smaller desks make it easier to transport.
  3. There are bike lanes, but there are still bikers who bike on the sidewalk.
    1. It can be dangerous for bikers on the road.
  4. People who are not considerate of others on public transportation; such as listening to loud music, eating, putting their book bags on a seat, etc.
    1. They might not necessarily think that what they are doing is inconsiderate.
  5. Clothes pilling after you wash them.
    1. The more you wash your clothes, the more worn out it becomes.
  6. No matter how many times we take out the trash and clean our garbage can, it always ends up smelling so bad.
    1. The food in the trashcan could be causing this or we are not taking the trash out enough.
  7. During the spring, I don’t like how much pollen dirties my car.
    1. Springtime is when all the plants are pollinating, causing there to be a lot of pollen to stick to the car.
  8. I don’t like how the weather is so bipolar here in Florida and it keeps changing between hot and cold.
    1. Climate change is causing unconventional climates.
  9. Having to wait for running warm water in the morning.
    1. It takes more energy to heat the water, making it take longer.
  10. Having my shoes unlace many times during the day.
    1. The laces aren’t tied tightly enough.
  11. I don’t like when the chair squeaks every time it moves.
    1. It could be old and is squeaking because of overuse.
  12. I don’t like when some bathroom sinks have really strong water pressure and a low sink, causing splatters of water.
    1. Bad planning.
  13. When spiders get into my car and pop out while I’m driving.
    1. I don’t know how they get in but depending on where I park, spiders might come in to make it their sanctuary.
  14. Getting dry skin during the winter.
    1. During the winter, the weather is very dry, causing our skin to dry up as well.
  15. On the Chrome browser, I am not able to switch from tab through tab just using the touchpad.
    1. This feature might only be possible on Chrome laptops.
  16. I don’t like how plastic containers stain red after storing pasta.
    1. The pasta sauce has so much oil that it causes a stain in the plastic.
  17. Getting a burn in your mouth after ingesting something hot.
    1. The temperature of the food or drink might have been too hot to ingest, causing a burn in your mouth.
  18.  Ordering the wrong thing online and it is such a hassle to ship it back.
    1. The process might be tedious because everything needs to be correct for you to get refunded your money.
  19. Not getting a notification of a text, email or call on your phone.
    1. The phone might have glitched.
  20. Getting hacked on any account.
    1. I probably made myself vulnerable to the hacker, thus making it easy to get hacked.

This activity was such a challenge because I had to think about all the little things in my daily life that bothers me.  When I started this activity at first, I thought that I would never be able to list twenty things that “bug” me because I did not think that I had that many things that I was bothered by. I usually don’t think about them until I am in a situation where it happens, but I realized that I do have many little things that bother me. All the things I have listed are not big problems, but they do get me worked up when it happens.

  1. I also had a hard time coming up with 20 things that bug me because you don't realize the little things that bug you. It also bugs me when sinks are low and have really strong water pressure. It especially bothers me because I'm tall so it really splashes everywhere when I wash my hands. Another thing that also bothers me on your list is the desks with the chair attached to them. I am a bigger guy so I never really fit in the desks so it is hard to work.

  2. Hi Mia, your list is interesting and impressive for me. You mentioned many bugs from various scenes and topics in our life, including the food, technology, and cleaning. I have a similar feeling with you when you talked about how annoying it is when ordering the wrong things online. I also shop online. Therefore, it is common for me to mail things back to the store, which is a boring and annoying process. I think it would be easy for you to come up with more bugs in your life if you carefully experience your life and try to find things that could be improved in the world.

  3. Hi Mia, I could definitely relate to a lot of the bugs you mentioned and I also found it to be a challenge to come up with bugs, since a lot of modern problems already have solutions. I especially can't stand not getting phone notifications and getting dry skin during the winter. in a digital age like today, how do we still have such a silly issue like not getting notifications? Such a silly issue should be resolved with easy bug fixes. Also, I hate getting dry skin during the winter, especially since my skin is naturally fairly dry, and the cold only exacerbates it.

  4. Hi Mia,
I agree that the Bug List was difficult, especially because I also don’t make a note of when something bugs me to remember later- and as you also mentioned, no problem was a major difficulty that truly bothered me or was a constant thought. Your list was very specific and spanned many areas of daily life, many that I have also come into contact with but did not think about or try to see why they exist. The busses with handlebars and desks with chairs were great additions, since I use them every day and forgot to mention or think why they might be designed that way.
